Small Jumbo (SJ)

The Small Jumbo (SJ) is one of John’s most celebrated and influential models. It was years in development, and the early prototypes were so successful that the SJ ultimately became the foundation for the redesign of his entire guitar line. Its outline represents a more modern interpretation of the classic O‑style body — intentionally updated, not merely borrowed.

With a 16″ lower bout, the SJ has the ability to move air with authority when pushed, yet its refined geometry keeps the instrument remarkably responsive under a lighter touch. This balance makes it equally compelling for dynamic strumming and expressive fingerstyle work.

The SJ comes standard with a cutaway and a 13‑fret neck‑to‑body joint, a combination that enhances upper‑fret access while contributing to the model’s distinctive voice and feel. It’s a versatile, contemporary instrument that has earned its place as a cornerstone of John’s modern designs.
